Prof. Charles Esimone

Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University

Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone is a Nigerian professor of biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical biotechnology who currently serves as the vice-chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Nigeria. He is a highly respected scientist and educator who is making significant contributions to the advancement of pharmaceutical science and technology in Nigeria and Africa.

Professor Esimone is a pioneer in the use of recombinant viral vectors as surrogates for high through-put antiviral screening studies and on the use of indigenous medicinal plants as immunomodulators, vaccine adjuvants, and anti-infectives. He has published over 400 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has successfully supervised over 70 postgraduate students.

Professor Esimone is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy. He is also a member of the Global Young Academy and the American Society for Cell Biology.

Professor Esimone is passionate about youth career development and is committed to mentoring young scientists. He is a role model for young people who are interested in pursuing a career in science and technology.
